Report from the Buildings and Grounds Committee

We did it! Faced with a small amount of asbestos in a few tiles in the entry hallway to the RE building, Buildings & Grounds (B&G) dealt with the task of removing all the tiles, ensuring the air quality was good afterwards and replacing the floor with new tiles IN ONE WEEK, while Play To Learn, our childcare provider, was closed. Working with the Treasurer and the Board, the City and the State, and through the generosity of many of you, there is a beautiful new floor and at least some of the unanticipated expense has been defrayed.

SOME is the operating word! B&G has a limited budget and is faced with continuing leaks from the flat roof over the hallway in the RE building, which could damage the new tiles if not remediated, the Metcalf House porch badly needing replacement and the Accessibility Ramp having damaged slate and needing work on its base.

These buildings are our assets and how we present to the world. Providing childcare, affordable housing and a beautiful space for community events makes a statement about our values. And these buildings combined bring in over half our income, so we must protect them.

We are asking for your continuing support of these efforts. If you can help, please bring a check on Sunday, marked B&G Fund, or mail a check to UUC, 20 Forest Street, Stamford, CT 06901, again marked B&G Fund. This is our home and well worth preserving!

Thank you.
