B&G Matching Funds Drive

The City and State have required us to address the damaged asbestos-containing floor tiles in the hallway of the Religious Education building and install a new floor. The work must be completed during the week of August 17, when the Childcare Center is closed.

This hallway serves both our congregation and Play to Learn, the childcare provider that operates in our building and is authorized to serve up to 61 children. Maintaining a safe and functional space for these children is an important responsibility. The rental income from Play to Learn also provides a significant portion of UUC’s operating revenue.

Buildings & Grounds obtained three proposals for the asbestos work and three proposals for the new flooring. After careful review, and subject to final Board approval, we have selected HomeGuard for the remediation and Classic Carpeting for the new floor. The total project cost will exceed $15,000. Although the annual B&G budget is $26,500, only approximately $4,000 had been budgeted for this project, with roughly $6,000 of the available capital-repair funding already committed to rehabilitation of the Metcalf House porch. This leaves a substantial unanticipated shortfall.

To help meet this unexpected expense, B&G is launching a Matching Funds Drive. We have a $3,000 matching pool, so every contribution will be doubled while matching funds remain available. A $25 gift becomes $50, a $100 gift becomes $200, and a $500 gift becomes $1,000.

Our goal is to raise at least $6,000. Reaching that goal would go a long way toward covering this extraordinary expense without consuming funds needed for other essential building repairs.

The matching funds were contributed from outside the congregation. We encourage you not only to give, but also to consider whether friends or family members might find this project meaningful and wish to participate.
