Message from DRE, Jeanne Nametz

This Sunday’s class will celebrate the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Fire Horse. Please stay for coffee hour so our children can hand out Chinese wishes in lucky red envelopes!

Our Youth Group just completed an initiative to support an immigrant family thru SNUI who have been affected by ICE. Thank you for your support and we will announce their total collected in gift cards and cash in our next edition. Stay tuned!

March 15th: WEAVE: the Social Fabric Project

There is an interesting and innovative experiment in social capital and the building of trust across differences. “The organization Weave: the Social Fabric Project seeks to tackle the problem of broken social trust that has left Americans lonely, divided and in social gridlock. Weave connects, supports and invests in local leaders stepping up to weave a new inclusive social fabric where they live.” (from Weavers.org)

They describe their purpose: “In communities throughout the country, in ways big and small, people are showing up for each other and building connection and trust. They value everyone no matter their differences, make us feel we belong , and act to bring people together to address shared needs. You probably know some of them. They are the neighbors you can count on. We call them weavers. Weavers are people who create deep relationships with others where they live or work while tackling shared needs and building social trust.”

As Unitarian Universalists, we are always looking to build bridges and accept differences no matter how hard that may be. Check this organization out. It was founded by David Brooks, a reporter from the NY Times and is under the umbrella of the Aspen Institute.
–Check out their website Weavers.org
–Sign up for their newsletter
–Explore the many grants particularly the small micro ones available to local communities
–Check out the very cool Social Trust Map which is an interactive map that allows you to view Weave community projects throughout the U.S. They say “when it comes to building social trust, three things matter: trusting behavior, trusting intentions, and trusting spaces.”

Many Blessings,
