4th Annual Saint Lucia Day Celebration & Luciatåg Procession at UUC:

Experience an adaptation of a Swedish Saint Lucia celebration at UUC! Join Elizabeth Jenkins-Sahlin (a Swedish-American born in Sweden) and Social Souls for a festive, family-friendly holiday tradition that spreads light, joy, and holiday cheer throughout downtown Stamford.

In Sweden, Saint Lucia day celebrations mark the beginning of the Christmas season. At UUC, the “Saint Lucia Day Celebration and Luciatåg Procession” is an annual invitation to dress up (in white or red, if possible) and gather together with UUC congregants, family, and friends for a procession complete with music and merriment.

UUC’s Saint Lucia will meet participants in UUC’s Community Room at 5:30pm and lead the procession of participants on a candlelit walk (with singing!) around downtown Stamford. The procession will conclude with a photo opp in front of the Christmas tree in Latham Park and will be immediately followed by a reception open to all who plan on staying for the 7:30pm Vespers service.

The 7:30 PM Vespers service will invite participants to turn their light inwards, to reflect on the theme of “mystery”, and to cultivate peace within, between, and beyond themselves.
