In order to distinguish the use of the term, Sanctuary, (which will continue to be used for UUC purposes) from the name of the same space used by the Foundation for more secular promotional purposes, we have been asking the congregation to choose a new name for this hall. The top three names chosen over the summer were:
-Emerson Hall – Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) in addition to being a towering American cultural figure of the 19th century, the leader of the Transcendentalist movement, and a prolific orator and writer, is also our best-known Unitarian preacher.
-Fuller Hall – Margaret Fuller was the true heart of the Transcendentalist movement and with more dedication to social justice. Her legacy was diminished due to patriarchy, not influence.
-Jordan Hall – Joseph Jordan was the first African American to be ordained by the Universalist denomination- whose ministry focused on the education of black children.
At the last Congregational meeting, however, a desire for more choices was expressed. Below are those suggestions:
-Unity Hall
-Journey Hall
-Transcendence Hall
-Gratitude Hall
-Wanderer Hall
-The Great Hall at UU
If you are a voting member, you will be handed a ballot with all of the above choices and asked to fill it out and turn it in before the service. We will count during the service, convene the Congregational meeting, and ask you to approve the final choice. Come and voice your choice!
